About the Guild
Founded in November 2013 by Dr. Elizabeth Aversa and a dedicated group of volunteers, the Opera Guild at The University of Alabama (OG@UA) has four purposes:
- to support student artists in the UA Opera Theatre program
- to increase the number of ticket purchasers, donors, and fans
- to enhance the visibility of opera at UA, in Tuscaloosa, and beyond
- to extend opera through outreach and education for diverse audiences in the community
Activities of the Guild include hosting receptions, providing greeters for opera theatre performances, and organizing events to showcase opera and student artists while providing support for UA’s Opera Theatre program in the School of Music. The Guild’s annual GALA is among the major fund raisers for the opera program and generates nearly 75% of the program’s annual operating budget.

Guild meetings are held monthly with interim communication by e-mail, telephone, and personal contact. Meetings are now held on Zoom, usually at Noon on the 4th Thursday of the month and there is often entertainment by opera students at the top of the meeting. Join us . . . we’re a lively and fun group!

A Virtual Alumni Concert and Gala

(the night that our in-person 2021 Gala would have been held)
Join us on Zoom for an evening of special performances by beloved UA Opera Theatre Alumni and current students, along with prizes, toasts, celebrations, and operatic merriment!
Black Tie optional and your Friday-night glamour will be fun … create a festive environment and raise a glass with us from the comfort and safety of your home.
You know you’ve been looking for a chance to dress up and go to a special event, and this will be an experience not to be missed for sure!!! AND … there will be a sneak peak of the upcoming production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute (livestreamed performances on Feb. 25, and 26).
The Opera Theatre needs your support now more than ever, and the students are working hard with your help despite the pandemic. This event will take the place of our live annual Gala which was the major fund-raising event of our season.
Purchase tickets easily online. Tickets for this special evening are $100 per individual (TAX DEDUCTIBLE), and your ticket purchase comes with a chance to bid on beautiful baskets of wine and spirits, and to win a stunning piece of fine jewelry generously donated by our friends at Fincher & Ozment in Tuscaloosa.
